Key Thought : The Bible is a guide to instruct the church in day to day principles for living.
1. Have a volunteer read Hebrews 4:12.
A. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
B. How does the Bible cut right through to the thoughts and intents of the heart? What does this mean?
C. Personal Application : Share with the class a time when a Bible text helped you make a decision or help you with a response to a situation.
D. Case Study: One of your relatives states, “What does it mean by the word being a two-edged sword? What does the Scripture do to compare it to a double bladed weapon?” How would you respond to your relative?
2. Have a volunteer read Psalm 19:7-11.
A. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
B. If we are saved by grace, what great reward is there for keeping the commandments of the Lord?
C. Personal Application : In what ways have the commandments and judgments of the Lord been sweet to you?
D. Case Study : One of your friends states, “How does the law restore the soul? I thought the law only showed us what we are supposed to do and show us what sin is.” How would you respond to your friend?
3. Have a volunteer read John 5:39,40.
A. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
B. Is Jesus talking to atheists or believers here? How did they think they had eternal life in the Word without coming to Jesus?
C. Personal
Application : How do you search the Scriptures?
D. Case Study: One of your neighbors states, “Jesus was talking about the written Bible of His time – the Old Testament. But Jesus wasn’t born then and isn’t mentioned in the Old Testament. How can Jesus say the Scriptures testify of Him?” How would you respond to your neighbor?
4. Have a volunteer read 2 Kings 23:1-3.
A. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
B. Is reformation and revival an individual act or does it have to be corporate in the church family to be effective? Share your thoughts.
C. Personal Application : Has there ever been a sermon or reading of the Word that shaped how you do things? Share an experience when the word preached or read caused conviction and a change in behavior in your life.
D. Case Study : Think of one person who needs to hear a message from this week’s lesson. Tell that class what you plan to do this week to share with them.
