The Bible is Reliable

Lesson 4

April 28, 2007
Key Thought : The Bible is the inspired word of God and has been preserved accurately through Divine intervention.
1. Have a volunteer read John 13:18,19.
A. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
B. How effective were Jesus words in predicting the future from Scripture to His disciples?
C. Personal Application : Do you have any favorite prophecies that help your faith in the Bible’s accuracy? Share with the class why they are important.
D. Case Study : One of your relatives states, “Did God preordain Judas to betray Christ? If he hadn’t done so, the Scripture wouldn’t have been fulfilled.” How would you respond to your relative?
2. Have a volunteer read Revelation 22:18,19.
A. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
B. What does it mean to “add unto these things” that Revelation warns about? How does a person add unto these things?
C. Personal Application : What part of Revelation would you like to take away? Is not speaking the truth of Revelation taking away from its prophecies? Share your thoughts.
D. Case Study : One of your friends asks you, “How can you even try to interpret Revelation with such a strong warning? What if you are wrong in any way? Wouldn’t you be lost?” How would you respond to your friend?
3. Have a volunteer read I Corinthians 15:12-19.
A. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
B. Are Christians ordained for happiness and ease in this life, or heartache, sorrow, and tribulation? Share your thoughts.
C. Personal Application : Recently a TV show said the bones of Jesus and His family were found in a grave in Jerusalem. Can any Christian honestly believe that Jesus was raised without His bones? Is His resurrection a spiritual one, or a bodily one?
D. Case Study : One of your neighbors states, “I believe that Jesus was a good man and a prophet. My religion teaches that Jesus was not crucified, nor did He die at that time, nor was He resurrected. But we do believe He will come again a second time.” How would you respond to your neighbor?
4. Have a volunteer read I Corinthians 15:6.
A. Ask class members to share a short thought on what the main idea of this text is.
B. Does the eyewitness account of Jesus’ appearing before at least five hundred help your faith in the resurrection?
C. Personal Application : How many times have you ever said, ‘I’ll believe it when I see it.’? How does this apply to our faith in God and His Word?
D. Case Study : Think of one person who needs to hear a message from this week’s
lesson. Tell that class what you plan to do this week to share with them. (Note: “Truth that is not lived, that is not imparted, loses its life-giving power, its healing virtue. It blessing can be retained only as it is shared.” MH p. 149)
